Redesigning a Web site under budget and on time
CHALLENGE
When the CEO of Silicon Valley Bank told the senior management team that the company Web site www.svb.com needed an immediate overhaul, I lead the effort as the new Web Communications Manager. I knew there was a critical need for the site to reflect the recent reorganization and upgrade of the financial products and services departments.
SOLUTION
I committed to produce a new interface design and 100 pages of updated content in 40 days for under $30K. After obtaining the CEO's sponsorship, I formed a cross-division team representing editorial, sales, marketing, and IT. Then I challenged five design firms to compete for our future business with a complimentary Web design concept. I managed the team's creativity, applications, and schedule, streamlined the effort, and solved small production snags as we worked.
SUCCESS
Happily, the project was accomplished 10 days earlier than expected, at half the projected cost, and with 100 additional pages. The senior management team was glad to finally have a site that was both current and credible. As a plus, I learned during the exercise how we could create a new online banking transaction tool that promised even greater client activity in the next iteration of the site.
